Background
Electromotive, a division of G.M., is one of two companies that dominates this country’s production of diesel train locomotives. All parts produced must meet a rigorous cleanliness specification.
Problem
Two types of parts - an exhaust manifold and a gear box cover - have to be cleaned in a particular area of the plant. To achieve good results, the parts have to be supported in a normally unstable position.
 Solution
Design a fixture that holds the parts up on edge and which can be hoisted into the cleaning system. The picture shows a fixtured gear box cover ready to be unloaded.
