Cleaning unit for MARINE MANUFACTURER for washing engine mount transoms.

Remove Oils and
Chips from Stainless
Steel Engine Mount
Transoms.

BACKGROUND
This east coast based manufacturer is a major supplier of high performance marine accessories. Their main focus is fabricating stainless steel engine mount transoms. These transoms are 82” (l) x 24” (w) x 32” (h) and weigh 300 lbs/each.

PROBLEM
Due to the size of these transoms, this company previously had five (5) men hand cleaning them one-by-one in homemade solvent tanks. This process was slow and awkward. In an effort to reduce labor costs and their solvent discharge liability they needed a system that could wash and rinse light machining oils and stainless steel chips automatically without solvents. Floor space was a critical issue.

SOLUTION
Given the floor space requirements and the position of the customer’s hoist, the cleaning system had to be top loading... not an easy task with a 90” diameter turntable.

The base of the stainless steel cabinet was built with 3/16” thick metal sheet. The lid was counter balanced so the linear actuator could easily power the lid up and down. The system has a wash/ fresh rinse cleaning cycle. To minimize discharge, the rinse water is automatically diverted to the wash tank whenever the water level is low.

SYSTEM
A stainless steel T-9000 (90” turntable diameter) with 35” work height and a 2000 lb. weight capacity. The system has a 15 hp/300 GPM pump to accommodate the size of the machine, two (2) in-line filters (200 GPM/50 micron each), and a 2000 lb. actuator for raising and lowering the lid.

Special Note
Following installation of this machine, four (4) workers in this department have been moved to the production area.
