BACKGROUND
This customer manufactures dry chemical batteries under license with one of the big 3 brand name companies. They supply all of South America.
PROBLEM
Get rid of trichlorethylene and find a more environmentally friendly way of cleaning parts. This was easier said than done. The deep drawn battery casings (AAA and AA size batteries) have to be absolutely free of contaminants and dry before the conductive materials are loaded. They need to clean 12,000,000 per month.
 SOLUTION
The only way to clean and dry a large batch of battery cases in a water-based system is to tumble the load. Hence, tests were run in a Cyclojet 3. The desired results were achieved with a five (5) stage cycle...1 min. spray wash, 2 min. submerge wash, 1 min. spray rinse, 2 min. submerge rinse, and a 5 min. hot air dry.
The challenge was then quantity. The standard Cyclojet 3 could not output enough parts. By replacing the four (4) small baskets with two (2) large baskets, the holding capacity nearly doubled and the output exceeded the factory’s current production.
If their growth plans are met, the customer will add a second Cyclojet 3, interconnecting the two cleaning systems with a roller conveyor.
SYSTEM
A Cyclojet 3 system with the following options: two (2) basket design, 10 hp regenerative blower with a 21 kW heat tube for drying, additional ARC-11 rinse cycle, additional filtering system for wash tank, end of cycle beacon light, supplementary side panels for increased safety and a high volume steam exhaust unit.
