Parts washer for SCREW MACHINE COMPANY to clean steel fittings, spacers, valves and more.

Replace Existing
Cleaning Method
Because of High
Rejection Rates
for Cleanliness

BACKGROUND
This midwest based screw machine company is manufacturing carbon steel fittings, spacers, valves, etc. for the automotive carburetor market. Two (2) years ago they were bought out by a large conglomerate.

PROBLEM
Since the acquisition, sales have increased ten fold. However, with the increased productivity, up to a 90% rejection rate was experienced due to an inadequate parts washing method. The three main reasons for rejection were: a) overall cleanliness, b) chips, and c) part-to-part nicking.

A company-wide team researched new cleaning systems which included rotary augers, belt washers, dip tanks, agitation systems, ultrasonics, etc. from many manufacturers, cost being no object.

SOLUTION
After extensive analysis at Better Engineering’s test facility, the selection team decided the Cyclojet 3 was ideal. They did, however, want a custom change which was nifty...a sliding load table.

The pneumatically-powered slide table has a “clean” side and a “dirty” side. Two (2) baskets are pulled out of the cleaning chamber onto the “clean” side of the slide table. The operator then pushes a button to shift the table so two (2) dirty baskets are lined-up and ready to be pushed into the cleaning chamber. With this slide table, clean baskets can never come into contact with a dirty wash surface.

SYSTEM
A three-tank Cyclojet 3 (one wash tank, one recirculating rinse rank, and one auxiliary tank for brass and aluminum cleaning) with a custom designed parts basket shuttle. This system also had the following features: 10 HP regenerative blower, 21 kW heat tube, PLC control panel, pH and conductivity meters, steam exhaust, 100 GPM filter, and an end-of-cycle beacon light.
