BACKGROUND
This 100 year-old company designs and manufactures the industry's broadest range of latches and access hardware for use in a diverse variety of applications. This application involves the following types of screws: torx, phillips, slotted, recessed, cross-recessed, and captive hardware.
PROBLEM
Their old parts washer could no longer keep up with production, was not removing the polishing compound adequately, and was labor intensive. Designs for a new cleaning system had to meet the following requirements: a) adapt to the customer's trays which hold any type of screw made, b) remove 100% of the polishing compound that is often hardened and always packed into the head slots, and c) wash, rinse, and dry the trays in a continuous fashion...output one (1) tray every 30 seconds.
SOLUTION
A Carousel system with wash, rinse and dry zones. This system has 17 individual fixtures. Each fixture has a hinged screen on the top and thick side walls with milled grooves every 3/16" ...the smaller the screws, the closer the tray is positioned to the top screen so that the screws are not blown off the trays. The turntable rotates once every 8 minutes, outputting one tray / 80 screws every 30 seconds or 9,600 screws per hour.
SYSTEM
A SS C-7000 PCS (Carousel with 70" turntable) with the following features: operator access on the left due to the room layout, regenerative blower with air heat system for drying, mist-kop steam collector, and an ELE-500 PLC.
