BACKGROUND
This 100 year-old company is a worldwide supplier of airfoils and other components for turbines in air, sea, and land applications. This application involves cleaning hundreds of newly manufactured turbine airfoils (blades) per 8 hour day.
PROBLEM
Their current cleaning system was not cleaning the airfoils sufficiently and was not capable of keeping up with production. A new cleaning system needed to be capable of the following: a) washing, rinsing and drying continuously, b) removing machining oils from all blind holes, and most importantly c) maintaining a constant water temperature of 190 F, +/- 5 degrees at all times (extremely difficult in a pass thru system). This system also needed to return the parts to a location near the operator.
SOLUTION/SYSTEM
A Cyber-Jet conveyor system with 3 modules (wash/rinse/dry) and a 24" wide belt. Each module is heated with individual gas burners such that the running temperature is exactly what the customer expected...190 F. A powered "u-turn" belt returns the parts to the operator 100% clean and dry. Electric eyes automatically control the system if parts are not present or the operator steps away.
