Background
“Big 3” automotive manufacturer needed to replace existing aqueous cleaning system due to safety concerns.
Problem
After being removed from an existing belt washer, these parts (heads, blocks, and crankshafts) still had to be manually rinsed with a hose to remove chips then dried with an air gun. This process wasted labor and created significant safety issues; a) the noise level exceeded 85 dB. and, b) milling debris being sprayed all over the shop and c) water continuously covering the shop floor.
Solution
A new cleaning system would need to clean and dry the parts and exit the machine at +/- 3° ambient temperature... the next operation is CMM measurement which is calibrated at room temperature.
Cleanliness requirements were less than 50 milligrams of contaminant per head and crankshaft...100 milligrams per block… 100 micron was the maximum particle size allowed for all parts.
System
BE customized an F-4000-P turntable system that consistently meets the cleanliness requirements. The special features include:
- ergonomic fixturing
- high impact manifolds
- centrifugal blower for drying
- special filtration
