Background
Formed in 1922 this company is the world's largest manufacturer of diesel and electric locomotives.
Problem
After the redesign of all the main engine components, this company had to meet more stringent cleaning specifications due to tighter tolerances...the previous cleaning method was found to be inadequate. The parts produced in the new process are required to have no more than 30 mg. of contamination with no particle larger than 50 microns. The application involves cleaning the piston assemblies for 18 cylinder locomotive engines.
Solution
BE designed a stainless steel turntable unit to receive a pallet fixture from a roller cart that is used to move the heavy parts from the manufacturing area to the cleaning area. The pallet fixture allows the parts to pivot 30° during the cleaning cycle to ensure proper cleaning, and the fixture has the versatility to clean different piston assemblies from other model engines.
System
A S.S. F-5000LX -PCS machine with the following options: micron level water filtration, roll-away cart/pallet, custom wash/rinse/dry manifolds, mist collection system, and special controls.
