Background
This company has been recognized as a leader in automotive manufacturing since the early 1900’s. They are currently operating in 12 countries with 14,000 employees worldwide manufacturing a variety of transmissions and other auto/truck components.
Problem
The plant in question needed to convert to cellular manufacturing. The old "monster" washers had to go in favor of new lean washers that could do the job in a fraction of the space. The shafts were particularly difficult because both ends of the shafts had deep blind holes, all chips had to be removed prior to assembly.
Solution
Supply a carousel washer that can wash and dry the parts in one revolution of the turntable. The operator removes 2 clean parts from the fixture and then loads 2 dirty parts. By the time the operator comes back, 2 more clean parts will be in the unload position. This machine can output 2 clean parts every 20 seconds. The shafts are fixtured vertically. Special nozzles, on the same travel radius, blast out the upper blind hole.
System
C-5000 Carousel: 50" turntable, all stainless steel, recirculated wash and dry stages, fixture holds 28 shafts around the perimeter of the turntable, in-line filtration, light curtain at the load point, etc...
