Background
Entering their 85th year in business, this company has become the world leader in the design, manufacture and sales of automatic transmissions for trucks, buses, off-road and military vehicles.
Problem
The customer needed an automatic cleaning system that would improve the cleanliness of their aluminum transmission cases just prior to assembly. The cases had to be cleaned such that there would be less than 35 mgs of contamination left on the parts. The cases also had to exit the system dry and at room temperature. Lastly, the conveyance system could not scar the machined surfaces.
Solution
Design a powerful in-line washer, with precision manifolds, and a CDLR ( chain driven live roller ) conveyor. The conveyor also offered "low pressure accumulation" (rollers are covered with free spinning plastic sleeves). This method of conveyance solves several issues: a) prevents the bottom machined surface from scratching when the cases are loaded, b) also prevents scratching should a case stop or slide for whatever reason, and c) insured that no area on the underside of the case would be covered all the way through the washer.
System
Stainless steel C-24 Cyber-Jet with wash and dry modules, CDLR /accumulating conveyor. In-line particle filtration, spray nozzles lined-up with critical holes, 1,900 CFM blower thoroughly dries the cases without using heat, special load/unload height.
