Parts washing unit for WORLDWIDE SUPPLIER cleaning automotive steering components.

Removing Zinc Stearate
Lubricant from the
Interior and Exterior of
Tubular Steering Shafts

Background
This company is a world leader in automotive components such as starters, compressors, steering devices, etc... They have approximately 195,000 employees and operate 199 wholly-owned manufacturing sites, 43 joint ventures, 53 customer centers and sales offices, and 32 technical centers in 43 countries. Additionally, regional headquarters are located in Paris, Tokyo and São Paulo.

Problem
The customer needed a washing system to clean "tubular steering shafts"....these parts had a nasty "zinc stearate" lubricant all over the inside and outside surfaces that had to be removed. The customer's initial concept was a U-shaped belt washer.

Solution
A U-shaped belt washer would have been way too big for the work cell in question. The customer liked the carousel design because it epitomizes the "lean" design concept. The tubes are fixtured vertically around the circumference of the turntable. The spray and air manifolds are curved on the same radius to blast the ID and OD surfaces . Every 30 seconds, two(2) clean/dry parts are waiting in the front for the operator.

System
C-5000 carousel which has a 50" diameter turntable..all wetted parts are stainless steel...the wash solution is recirculated from a heated tank....a regenerative blower supplies the air for drying...side access doors...remote control panel in the rear...top mounted chemical supply tank...steam exhaust system, etc...
