Challenge

Distribution conveyor slats present unique cleaning challenges. Their long, narrow geometry makes consistent spray coverage difficult, especially when processing large quantities per cycle. The customer needed to process approximately 40 parts per batch, each up to 55 inches in length, while ensuring parts remained upright and stable throughout the wash and rinse stages.

Additional requirements included:

  • Heated recirculated wash and rinse at elevated temperatures
  • Optional higher operating pressure (up to 100 psi)
  • Safe manual loading with crane-assisted transfer
  • Repeatable drying performance without part handling damage

The system also needed to operate within a defined footprint while supporting up to 2,500 lbs of working capacity.

Approach

Better Engineering engineered a custom RD-W-7000-P turntable wash system designed specifically for batch cleaning distribution conveyor slats.

Custom Removable Fixture

A removable 304 stainless steel fixture was designed to hold approximately 40 extrusions upright using a series of precision posts. Parts are manually loaded onto the fixture, then crane-lifted onto the 70-inch turntable using a central hook post integrated into the fixture design.

A quick-disconnect (QD) center manifold was included to allow removal during loading, ensuring clearance for crane operations without compromising wash coverage once installed.

All wetted components are constructed from 304 stainless steel, supporting durability in elevated-temperature aqueous cleaning environments.

Results

The RD-W-7000-P system enables high-volume batch cleaning of distribution conveyor slats with repeatable wash coverage and thermal control. The removable fixture design streamlines loading while maintaining part orientation and spacing throughout the cycle.

Key outcomes include:

  • Improved wash consistency across long extrusion profiles
  • Increased throughput with approximately 40 parts per cycle
  • Reduced manual handling risk through crane-assisted loading
  • High-temperature aqueous cleaning with integrated heated rinse and dry

The result is a controlled, efficient cleaning process aligned with industrial production demands.

Conclusion

This RD-W-7000-P installation demonstrates Better Engineering’s ability to engineer application-specific turntable wash systems for complex part geometries. By combining removable fixturing, heated recirculated wash and rinse stages, and high-capacity drying, the system delivers consistent cleaning performance within a robust stainless steel platform.

The result is dependable batch cleaning designed for precision, durability, and production efficiency
