Challenge
The customer, a leading manufacturer of professional-grade power tools and accessories, was moving toward a more automated production environment, but cleaning had not yet caught up. Manual or semi-automated processes created inconsistencies in how parts were cleaned and introduced variability into the workflow.
At the same time, saw blades present their own challenges. Stacked parts, tight spacing, and residual oils from manufacturing require strong, uniform spray coverage and effective drying to prevent carryover into the next step.
To keep pace with production, the customer needed a system that could operate continuously, integrate with robotics, and deliver repeatable results without constant operator input.
Approach
Better Engineering designed a custom C-14 Cyberjet conveyor parts washer, configured specifically for robotic integration and continuous cleaning.
The system was built around a modular conveyor platform with a recirculated wash stage followed by a heated dry stage, allowing parts to move through a controlled, sequential process.
Key elements of the solution included:
- Robotic Integration
The system was designed with the assumption that the customer would supply robotics to load and unload stacked saw blades directly onto the conveyor, eliminating manual handling and supporting consistent part presentation. - Recirculated Wash Module
A heated wash stage uses high-impact spray coverage to remove oils and debris. The system operates at elevated temperatures to improve cleaning performance while maintaining consistent fluid management. - Heated Dry Module
After washing, parts pass through a heated drying stage that removes residual moisture using high-velocity airflow and controlled heat, preparing parts for immediate downstream processing. - Indexing Conveyor System
A variable-speed conveyor allows parts to move through the system at a controlled rate, ensuring proper exposure time in each stage while maintaining steady throughput. - Modular Design for Scalability
The system’s modular construction allows for future expansion, giving the customer flexibility to add rinse or additional stages as production needs evolve.
Results
With the new system in place, parts washing g became a fully integrated part of the automated production line.
Saw blades are now processed in a continuous flow, moving from robotic loading through wash and dry stages. This eliminated inconsistencies caused by manual handling and ensured each part receives the same level of cleaning and drying.
The result is a more stable and predictable process, with improved throughput and reduced variability between batches.
Conclusion
For this repeat customer, the focus wasn’t just on cleaning, it was on keeping pace with automation.
By implementing a conveyorized tunnel washer designed for robotic integration, Better Engineering helped transform cleaning into a seamless part of the production line. The C-14 Cyberjet delivers consistent results, supports higher throughput, and provides the flexibility to grow alongside the customer’s operation.
It’s a shift from batch variability to continuous control, where every part moves through the same process, at the same pace, with the same result.
