Challenge
An aerospace manufacturer producing jet engine exhaust shrouds required a reliable method to clean large, cylindrical components with both inner and outer diameters. Each shroud measured approximately 36 inches in diameter and 27 inches in height, creating a cleaning challenge where conventional spray systems struggled to reach the internal surfaces with the same intensity as the exterior. The customer needed a process capable of delivering consistent, repeatable cleanliness across the entire component while maintaining production efficiency and protecting critical aerospace part quality.
Approach
Better Engineering designed and implemented a custom F-4000LX-PCS stainless steel turntable parts washer configured with integrated wash, rinse, and dry stages. The system incorporates a powered spray/dry manifold that automatically lowers into the center of the shroud during the cleaning cycle, ensuring the inner diameter receives direct spray coverage while the exterior surfaces are simultaneously cleaned by the surrounding spray system. By synchronizing the rotating turntable with the descending manifold, the washer provides uniform impingement across all surfaces of the component, enabling a controlled and repeatable cleaning process suitable for demanding aerospace applications.
Results
The installation of the F-4000LX-PCS parts washer significantly improved the customer’s ability to achieve consistent cleanliness on complex shroud geometries. The automated spray and drying manifold ensures complete coverage of both interior and exterior surfaces, eliminating areas that previously experienced inconsistent cleaning. As a result, the manufacturer achieved improved part quality, reduced manual intervention, and greater process repeatability, supporting higher production reliability for critical jet engine components.
Conclusion
The F-4000LX-PCS turntable parts washer provided an effective solution for cleaning large aerospace exhaust shrouds by combining controlled part rotation with a descending internal spray/dry manifold. This configuration allows the system to clean the inner and outer diameters of each component with equal effectiveness while integrating wash, rinse, and dry stages into a single automated process. The result is a robust cleaning solution that supports aerospace manufacturing standards while improving operational efficiency and consistency.
