Ultrasonic Rotary Basket Parts Washer Cleaning Medical Implants – SN 24018

Problem

Medical implants often have complex geometries, fine features, and textured surfaces where machining fluids, polishing compounds, and fine particulates can hide. Spray alone may not reach every surface, and any particle left behind or redeposited during the wash is a problem. The customer needed a system that could combine several cleaning actions in one cycle, keep wash and rinse water clean, maintain consistent chemistry concentration, and fully dry parts before they leave the machine.

Beyond cleaning performance, the system needed controls that support a regulated production environment, including data collection and quick troubleshooting to minimize downtime.

Solution

Better Engineering engineered a Cyclojet CJ-2, a two-basket rotary washer with upper and lower rotors that move spray across parts from above and below. Two independent tanks allow separate wash and rinse stages, and a 1,000 W ultrasonic system adds cavitation cleaning to the wash and immersion stages to reach into fine features and surface textures that spray alone can miss.

To keep contaminants off finished parts, Better Engineering added two inline bag filters between the pumps and nozzles to prevent suspended particles from redepositing onto implants during the cycle. A non-recirculated automatic rinse finishes each cycle with fresh water, which can be sent to drain or cascaded back to the recirculating rinse to keep that tank as clean as possible. Automatic chemical dosing, triggered by a concentration monitor, adds chemistry when levels drop so each cycle runs at a consistent concentration. Additionally, a 10 HP regenerative blower drying stage, paired with a 36 kW air heating system that raises air temperature up to 180°F, dries parts fully before the cycle ends.

The Cyclojet is designed to withstand the caustic nature of CIP 100, the cleaning chemistry used in this medical device application. Its stainless steel steam exhaust blower manages vapor inside the chamber while resisting the corrosion that could damage an aluminum blower over time.

    Results

The completed Cyclojet CJ-2 gives the customer a single automated system that combines orbital spray, ultrasonic cleaning, filtration, fresh rinse, and heated drying for medical implants. Controlled chemistry, cycle data export, and remote support give them the process consistency and visibility a medical device operation depends on.

    Conclusion

Medical implants leave no room for residue or particles. By pairing orbital spray and ultrasonic cleaning with fine filtration, a fresh rinse, controlled chemistry, and a heated regenerative dry stage on its Cyclojet CJ-2 platform, Better Engineering gave this medical device manufacturer a repeatable, data-connected cleaning process built for a regulated industry.
