Challenge

Better Engineering was hired by a worldwide OEM automobile engineering and manufacturing company that creates driveline
components and systems for automobiles with electronic drive systems.

Approach

As a solution for our customer, Better Engineering provided a model RTO-2000-R automatic washer designed to clean the tulip
joints and driveshaft components
. The washer comes with an automatic roll-in door and can be loaded and unloaded from the
same point using robotics, instead of manual labor. This stainless-steel part washing system is designed to clean one part every 15 seconds using a return-to-operator (RTO) mechanism. The process starts with the robot loading the part onto the spray chamber platform. Once the roll-in door automatically closes, the wash cycle begins. The part is then flooded with wash solution from multiple angles and directions by spray nozzles. The wash solution is recirculated from a reservoir located under the
spray chamber. The door automatically opens at the end of the wash cycle, and the robot unloads the part for the next process
stage.

Results

Better Engineering delivered a compact RTO-2000-R automatic part washer that fully met the customer’s takt-time requirement of cleaning one component every 15 seconds. The stainless-steel system operates with recirculated wash solution to reduce water and detergent consumption, while maintaining high cleaning performance. Integrated with robotic loading and unloading, automatic safety doors, and a return-to-operator workflow, the washer fit seamlessly into the customer’s existing work cell. The installed solution increased throughput, improved consistency, and eliminated manual handling, ensuring a reliable and efficient cleaning process for tulip joints and driveshaft components.

Key outcomes:

  • Delivered RTO-2000-R Automatic Part Washer
  • Washes One (1) Part Every 15 Seconds
  • Uses Recirculated Water
  • Stainless Steel Construction
  • Robotically Loaded and Unloaded
  • Automatic Safety Doors

Conclusion

This project demonstrated the value of partnering with an experienced engineering team that understands both precision cleaning requirements and modern production workflows. By delivering a highly efficient, robotics-compatible RTO-2000-R system, Better Engineering helped the customer improve throughput, eliminate manual handling, and achieve consistent, repeatable cleaning results.
