A global automotive manufacturer needed a automated parts washer capable of cleaning and drying multiple transmission case configurations within a single system. The solution had to support high production demands, integrate into existing plant space constraints, ensure operator safety, and align with rigorous international sustainability standards. Approach

Better Engineering designed and manufactured a custom automated cleaning system tailored specifically for transmission cases and associated dunnage. The system was engineered with versatile fixtures capable of accommodating up to 20 different transmission case models and incorporates four integrated stages: wash, rinse, water blow out, and heated dry. An automated water blow out module identifies each part type and positions air nozzles near critical openings to ensure thorough moisture removal, while a dedicated belt conveyor cleans the pallets transporting the cases. Throughout development, careful consideration was given to operator safety, efficient use of floor space, and adherence to plant sustainability requirements.

Results

The completed Automated Washing System delivers a fully integrated four stage cleaning and drying process within a single continuous flow design. Its adaptable fixturing allows seamless processing of multiple transmission case variations, while automated part recognition and targeted air blow out technology enhance drying precision and cycle efficiency. The inclusion of pallet cleaning improves overall system cleanliness, and automated stop functionality ensures parts are processed accurately and consistently.
