Challenge
A leading global automotive technology company contracted Better Engineering to build a conveyor part washer for cleaning and drying drive system components during manufacturing. These components required a precise and repeatable level of cleanliness to support stringent OEM quality standards and ensure optimal performance in final assembly. The customer also needed a solution capable of handling high production volumes without disrupting existing workflows. In addition, the system had to align with plant sustainability initiatives, demanding efficient filtration and resource management. This combination of technical, operational, and environmental requirements created a complex cleaning challenge that required a customized engineering approach.
Approach
Better Engineering’s design team collaborated with in-house production to customize a two-lane C-24 conveyor part washer with adjustable dual lanes to increase throughput. The team evaluated the customer’s driveline components, cleanliness specifications, and production flow to ensure the system was engineered for both precision and efficiency. By integrating two dedicated stages for washing and drying, the design provided consistent results while supporting continuous, high-volume operation. Advanced features such as PLC-based system monitoring, micron-level filtration, and optimized fluid management were incorporated to meet sustainability goals and maintain long-term performance. Throughout the process, close coordination between engineering, manufacturing, and the customer ensured the final system aligned seamlessly with the plant’s operational requirements.
Results
The custom two-lane C-24 conveyor washer successfully met the driveline manufacturer’s requirements by delivering consistent, high-quality cleaning and drying of drive system components. The system’s dual-lane configuration significantly increased throughput, while the integrated PLC monitoring enhanced operational control and traceability. Designed to align with the plant’s sustainability goals, the washer incorporated micron-level filtration and efficient fluid management to reduce waste and maintain long-term performance. The final solution provided a dependable, production-ready system that improved cleaning effectiveness, supported stringent OEM standards, and strengthened the customer’s overall manufacturing workflow.
Conclusion
Better Engineering designed and built a custom C-24 series conveyor washer is specifically designed to clean automotive driveline systems in manufacturing. It is a two-lane system, comprising of two stages for washing and drying. What’s more, this conveyor washer can also clean totes and components of automobile driveline systems. This compact washer has several features, including hinged canopies that provide full access to the interior, a complete system monitoring system through PLC, micron-level filtration, steam exhaust and mist collection, oil skimmer, and coalescer.
